Scripture:
If Monday felt disruptive…Tuesday feels confrontational.
“Jesus also told them other parables to teach them… ‘The stone that you rejected has now become the cornerstone.’”
- Matthew 21:42
- Matthew 21:42
This is the day Jesus spends teaching in the temple—telling stories, answering questions, and speaking truth that people didn’t always want to hear. Especially the religious leaders. They questioned Him. Challenged Him. Tried to trap Him in His words. And instead of avoiding it… Jesus leaned in. He told parables—stories that seemed simple on the surface but carried deeper meaning underneath. Stories that quietly revealed something many didn’t want to admit: That they were resisting the very One they had been waiting for.
And here’s what stands out to me…It wasn’t that they didn’t know about God. It’s that they struggled to recognize Him when He showed up in a way they didn’t expect. Honestly… that still happens today. Not just in a big, theological way—but in everyday life. We can be open to God… as long as He fits into what we’re comfortable with. As long as He doesn’t challenge our thinking. As long as He doesn’t ask us to release something we’ve been holding onto. But truth—real truth—has a way of gently pressing on the places we’d rather leave alone. Not to shame us…but to invite us into something deeper.
Jesus said, “The stone that you rejected has now become the cornerstone.” In other words…The very thing they were pushing away was actually the foundation they needed. That we need.
A Quiet Reflection
Is there an area of your life where you’ve been resisting truth… even just a little? Maybe not outright rejecting it—but avoiding it, softening it, or keeping it at a distance? What might it look like to lean in instead of pull back?
A Simple Prayer (if you’re unsure what you believe)
God, If You’re real… help me to be open - even if I don’t fully understand. If there’s truth I’ve been avoiding or not seeing clearly, would You gently bring it into the light? Give me a heart that’s willing to explore, to question, and to listen - without fear.
Amen.
A Simple Prayer (if you know Him)
Jesus,
I don’t want to resist You in the places that matter most. If there’s truth I’ve been avoiding or areas where I’ve grown comfortable instead of surrendered, would You lovingly reveal them to me? Give me a soft heart—one that listens, responds, and trusts You, even when it’s uncomfortable. Help me to build my life on You as my foundation.
