Holy Week – Wednesday: The Quiet Turning Point

Scripture :
“Then Judas Iscariot, one of the twelve disciples, went to the leading priests and asked, ‘How much will you pay me to betray Jesus?’ And they gave him thirty pieces of silver.”  - Matthew 26:14–15

Wednesday is often called the “quiet day” of Holy Week. There’s no big public moment. No crowds. No teaching in the temple.
But something significant is happening… quietly, behind the scenes. A decision is being made.
Judas, someone who had walked with Jesus, seen miracles, heard His words up close - makes a choice. He goes to the religious leaders and agrees to betray Him.
For thirty pieces of silver.
And if we’re honest… this part of the story can feel uncomfortable.  Because it’s easy to wonder: How could someone be that close to Jesus… and still walk away?
But maybe the harder question is this: Have we ever done something similar… just in quieter ways? Not betrayal in the same dramatic sense… But moments where we’ve chosen something else over what we knew was right. Moments where we’ve ignored a nudge, compromised, or slowly drifted. Not all at once.
Just… little by little.
Here’s what I find both sobering and incredibly tender: Jesus knew.  He knew what Judas was going to do.  And yet… He still sat at the table with him. Still spoke to him. Still loved him. That kind of love is hard to wrap my mind around. A love that sees clearly… and doesn’t pull away.
And whether you believe in Jesus or you’re still figuring that out… There’s something deeply meaningful here: You don’t have to have a perfect track record to be seen, known, and still loved.

A Quiet Reflection
Have there been small compromises… quiet choices… or places where you’ve drifted?
Not to sit in guilt—but just to notice.
What direction are your choices leading you right now?

A Simple Prayer (if you’re unsure what you believe)
God,
If You’re there… and if You really do see everything, that’s both comforting and a little overwhelming. But if it’s true that You don’t turn away from me,
even when I don’t always get things right, help me understand that kind of love.  Help me be honest with myself about the direction I’m heading, and give me the courage to take a step toward something better.
Amen.

A Simple Prayer (if you know Him)
Jesus,
You see me fully - nothing hidden, nothing unknown - and still, You love me.  Forgive me for the ways I’ve drifted or chosen other things over You, even in small, quiet ways.
Draw my heart back to You.  Strengthen me to choose You again—not out of fear, but because Your love is better than anything else I could hold onto.
Amen.
