Scripture:
“Then they took the body of Jesus down from the cross and placed it in a tomb… Then they went home and prepared spices and ointments… But by the time they were finished, it was the Sabbath, so they rested as the law required.”
— Luke 23:53–56

Saturday is the in-between.
The day after the heartbreak of the cross and before the joy nobody sees coming yet. It’s quiet. No miracles. No teaching. No visible movement.
Just… silence.
For the people who had followed Jesus, this wasn’t a peaceful pause. It was confusion. Everything they thought was going to happen… didn’t. Everything they believed about how the story would go… fell apart.
Jesus was gone.
And all they could do was sit in it. And whether you believe this story or you’re still unsure…. You know what this kind of day feels like. The day after something breaks.
The season where nothing feels clear. The space where you’re holding your breath, wondering what happens next.
The season where nothing feels clear. The space where you’re holding your breath, wondering what happens next.
We don’t talk about these days very much. We like resolution. We like clarity. We like things tied up neatly.
But real life doesn’t always work that way. Sometimes we find ourselves right here... in the in-between.
Where prayers feel quiet. Where answers don’t come quickly. Where you’re not who you used to be, but you’re not yet who you’re becoming either.
And here’s what’s hard about Saturday - nothing looks like it’s changing.
But that doesn’t mean nothing is happening. Because while everything felt still on the surface… God was not absent.
The story wasn’t over. It was just… unfolding in a way no one could see yet. And maybe that’s where this meets us today.
Not in a place of certainty… but in a place of waiting.
If you’re in an in-between season right now - where things feel unclear, unresolved, or even a little hopeless, this day quietly reminds us:
Just because you can’t see what’s coming… doesn’t mean there isn’t something coming.
And just because it feels still… doesn’t mean God has stopped moving.
Sometimes the most important parts of the story are happening beneath the surface in ways we wouldn’t recognize even if we could see them.
Roots are forming. Strength is being built. Hearts are being prepared. Not everything that matters is visible right away.
You may not feel it yet. You may not understand it yet. But this isn’t the end of your story.
What feels like a pause may actually be the space where something new is being made ready.
A Quiet Reflection
Where in your life do you feel like you’re in the in-between?
What feels unfinished, uncertain, or unresolved?
Can you sit with it… without rushing past it?
A Simple Prayer (if you’re unsure what you believe)
God,
If You’re there… this waiting is hard. Not knowing what’s next, not having answers - it can feel heavy.
If You’re there… this waiting is hard. Not knowing what’s next, not having answers - it can feel heavy.
If there’s more happening than I can see right now, help me trust that I’m not just stuck here for no reason.
Meet me in this in-between space.
Amen.
A Simple Prayer (if you know Him)
Jesus,
Waiting is hard.
Waiting is hard.
When I can’t see what You’re doing, it’s easy to feel forgotten or unsure. But help me remember that silence doesn’t mean absence.
Strengthen my trust in the in-between; that even here, You are working in ways I can’t yet see.
Give me peace to rest in You while the story is still unfolding.
Amen.
